TOMMY LEE Working With METALLICA Filmmaker On His Own Feature Documentary
January 12, 2006According to the Hollywood Reporter, one of the directors of the METALLICA documentary "Some Kind of Monster", Bruce Sinofsky, will turn his camera on MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee, who recently starred in his own NBC reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College". The still-untitled film, currently in pre-production, is slated to begin shooting in the spring.
"In the rock world, there are few figures as colorful as Tommy Lee, and not just because of his tattoos," Sinofsky said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "This project seeks a candid glimpse behind the celebrity and tabloid personality into who Tommy really is, watching him interact with family, friends and business associates."
Sinofsky and directing-producing partner Joe Berlinger won an Independent Spirit Award last year for best documentary for "Some Kind of Monster", which tracked METALLICA's near-demise as it dealt with personnel problems. The pair also shared Emmy and Peabody awards for the 1996 documentary "Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills", which aired as part of HBO's "America Undercover" series.
"I‘m honored that Bruce is turning his cameras loose on me," Lee said.
